The Band Friends
by Rachel S.
Once upon a time, in a deep, deep forest in Russia lived 4 friends - a big Brown Bear, a Grumpy Wolf, a sneaky Orange Fox and a smart Long-eared Rabbit.
The friends had one dream - they always wanted to be in a band. The Bear wanted to play a violin, the Wolf wanted to play a cello, the Fox was dreaming about playing a flute and the Rabbit wanted to play bongos. But the dream was not to become a reality because where would you find instruments in the forest?
" I cannot wait to become a musician any longer" said the Bear to his friends one day.
"Me too, so where do we get the instruments?" said Wolf. The Fox just started to cry, he wanted to play a flute really bad.
"Maybe if we go out of the forest to the open, we will find some instruments?" said Rabbit. He was the smartest among the friends and they usually listen to him. This time they listened too.
The next day 4 friends went on a journey. They walked and walked all day and didn't find anything. When it was almost dark all of a sudden they saw a house by the side of the road. Tired from the long trip, they decided to stay for a night in that house. They knocked on the door, but no one was there.
"Oh, well... maybe we should leave" said Bear.
"Wait!" said Rabbit. He jumped high up and looked in the window. "Look what's inside of the room" exclaimed Rabbit. "I don't believe my eyes" said Wolf after he looked in the window and saw the room filled with musical instruments.
The dream was so close, so they could not resist. They found a key under the door mat and went right in. Bear found his violin and a bow, Wolf grabbed his cello, Fox was able to find a flute and also helped Rabbit with bongos - they were too big for him to carry. With all those instruments they felt like a real band!
"What are we going to call our band?" asked Fox.
"How about The Animals" said Rabbit.
"Sound like a winner to me" said Wolf. And the Bear just agreed. He was speechless, looking on his violin with love.
"Let's get out of here before somebody find us." said Fox
So they ran back to the forest as fast as they can. They didn't stop till they found a picnic table. The Bear said, "let's stop here and try out our instruments." Everyone thought it is a good idea. They all sat down in a circle. "Everybody let's start playing in a count of three," said the Rabbit.
One...Two... Three... And they all started to play. The Bear was moving his bow up and down the violin, The Wolf was pinching strings on his cello, The Fox was blowing air in the flute, and the Rabbit was banging on the bongos. The music was awful, something clearly didn't work.
After a while they stopped playing. "We are not sitting in a right order" figured out Rabbit. Maybe if we switch places it might sound better. So they listened to Rabbit but still the music didn't turn out right. Rabbit again said, "Maybe if we trade instruments it will sound better." It took awhile for them all to agree, but the clearly didn't have any other choice. So they all tried to play different instruments, but still no luck.
The morning came and the animals were sad and tired. They decided to give up their dream and return the instruments where they found them. They walked back to the house. As they approach the house they saw a big sign that said "Music School For Animals Now Open". " What is a music school" asked Bear to the Rabbit. "I don't know," said Rabbit. "Let's go inside and ask what this means."
Just like the first time, they knocked on the door. The door opened and friends saw an Owl.
"Hi" said Owl. " I am a music teacher. How can I help you?"
"We brought back your instruments" said Rabbit. "We wanted to make a band, but the music would not play, and we don't know why" - Fox said with a very sad voice.
"This is because you've never learned how to play the instruments" said Owl. "Come inside and let's start learning".
In a year the band "The Animals" was famous all over the forest.
