by Lance
In the country of Russia, a long time ago, there was a rabbit. Now this was no ordinary rabbit because he could conjure up a lot of trouble. Wherever he went he was usually near farmlands because he absolutely adored carrots. The rabbit could steal at least 75% of a farmers carrots.
One day, while the rabbit was strolling about, he noticed a farm with an abundance of delectable looking carrots. He saw a boy there so he decided to put on his regular act. First, he acted like he was starving. Next, the person would get something for the rabbit to eat. Finally, he would take the carrots in the yard. The rabbit usually got the carrots. Sometimes, farmers chased him but he always got away.
Unfortunately for the rabbit, the boy he tricked was very persistent. The boy was creative and easily thought of a variety of ways to catch the rabbit. At first he tried to chase it and tire it out. It worked for the first couple of minutes but soon he knew it was hopeless. He then tried cornering the rabbit. He was so close he touched the rabbit’s fur. Fate was against him that time and the rabbit slipped between his legs. Finally, he realized he could lure the rabbit. It was getting dark so the boy got a match and lit it. The boy got a box and a carrot and set the trap. This time, the rabbit was caught! Soon, the boy was walking home. Suddenly, he tripped over a hole. The match burned the box the rabbit was in and part of the rabbit’s feet. The rabbit hopped into the hole, which apparently was his. The boy put his hand into the hole but didn’t get the rabbit. Instead, he got his carrots back.
From that day on, all rabbits hop because of their burnt feet. Just keep an eye out because the rabbits will still steal your carrots.
